SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO GET ENROLLED IN YOUR SMALLNESS
One of the things most important to me in life is non-stop expansion and creating environments that will harness and nourish that. The best athletes in the world have coaches and are always honing their craft. They also have an environment that won’t let them get away with playing small. This is huge.
One of the greatest inauthenticities for people who say they are committed to huge things in life is to create an environment that won’t hold them to account and take a stand for their greatness and their own integrity when they claim to be committed to huge things in life. An environment that will let you get away with things is completely inconsistent with that.
Part of this also gets into the trap of life categorization. Like you can be this way in your professional life or your activist life or your non profit life but then when you go back to your family, friends, kids, your health, your diet, your communication with people you aren’t currently speaking to….then all of a sudden it’s magically okay because there’s some magical line that gets created. While you may try to categorize life, the universe doesn’t give a fuck. How you do anything is how you do everything.
If you start not keeping agreements with your family, with your health, with yourself, or you start resenting others and withholding communication — that WILL show up in ALL of the other areas of your life sometimes in ways you can see and sometimes in ways you can’t see.
It would be like someone taking a stand for world peace yet isn’t speaking to their family. It simply would just get in the way and not be very workable.
It’s VERY easy to find people who will listen for your reasonableness in life. And with that kind of creating while pretending to be someone who is out to make a large impact and hold yourself to account — you’ll simply get the results in life you deserve. And if you choose to surround yourself with people who won’t really sell out on you when you start getting reasonable and making excuses then you’ll also get the results you deserve.
